jQuery: -

jQuery is a JavaScript cross-browser library which is developed by John Resig. jQuery provides abstractions for common client-side tasks such as DOM traversal, DOM manipulation, event handling, animation and Ajax e.t.c. with an easy-to-use API that works across a multitude of browsers. jQuery has changed the way that millions of people write JavaScript.

jQuery features:-

  1. DOM element selections by using the multi-browser open source selector engine Sizzle, a spin-off of the jQuery project
  2. Events
  3. Effects and animations
  4. Ajax
  5. DOM traversal and modification (including support for CSS 1–3)
  6. JSON parsing (for older browsers)
  7. Extensibility through plug-ins
  8. Utilities - such as user agent information, feature detection
  9. Compatibility methods that are natively available in modern browsers but need fall backs for
  10. Multi-browser (not to be confused with cross-browser) support.
  11. DOM manipulation based on CSS selectors that uses node element names and attributes (e.g. ID and class) as criteria to build selectors
